Chlamydia trachomatis infection in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Abstract
For the detection of chlamydial infection in 501 patients with PID, infertility, low genital tract infection, term pregnancy, neonates and cervical dysplasia, and in laparoscopically verified symptom free normal control group, tests using cycloheximide treated McCoy cell culture and direct immunofluorescence were carried out at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Korea University Guro Hospital during the period from February, 1984 through September, 1984.
The objectives of this study were directed toward the prevalence rates of chlamydial infection between the diseased groups, between the culture method and direct immunofluo rescent technique, between control group and study groups, and toward mother-to-infant transmission rates.
From this study, the following results were obtained
1. The positive rate of culture and direct immunofluorescent method among 265 cases was 60.9% and 72.2% respectively.
2. Remarkably higher prevalence rate in general, i.e., 62.2% in study group and 20.8% in control group.
3. No significant discrepancy between the diseased groups.
4. No significant discrepancy between the age groups of 20¢¥s and 30¢¥s.
5. Nulliparous women are much more affected.
6. No significant discrepancy between normal and abnormal PAP groups.
7. Nearly half of Mother-to-Neonate transmission during parturition.
